not because it was all THAT hard, but the fight itself was kinda poorly designed. The worst gameplay moment for me so far is PROBABLY the gabriel fight at the end of branch a. camera becomes terrible anytime walls are involved, but at least I can say the base combat is better than Nie R's since there's on-the-fly weapon switching AND an actual combo system this time. Game is pretty sloppy on the technical side like most people said. The dialogue is genuinely funny most of the time, although the parodies/poking fun at JRPG tropes is hit or miss for me. i'm sure the dlc for the intoners helps but.they really should have included the novellas in the actual game as text segments like Nie R or something. I think my main problem is that i'd have to echo the complaint that the majority of the cast is pretty underdeveloped. So i actually bought this game (yeah i'm super late to the part). if i wasn't a sucker for grimdark stuff i probably wouldn't have been as entertained by it as i was.Įdited 19th Sep '14 5:34:05 PM by wehrmacht drakengard 1 is more like a really fascinating horrific spectacle than a legitimately good story. I'd agree that Nie R did the grimdark thing better than the first two Drakengards at least, especially the second considering it wasn't even that dark anyway (it also has the worst plot and characters in the entire series). the forest of dreams segments were probably as much of a cost-saving measure as anything else, but given their context in the game and the general presentation and translation they were some of the best parts of the game. i will give cavia some credit for the gameplay shifts though most of them were pretty shallow, but they were at least making an effort. With some more polish, it could have been a good combat system, but the lack of budget and expertise really put a damper on that. It's *functional*, but the gameplay is not what I could consider a strong point for Nie R.
I mean, it's better than Drakengard's certainly, but that's not saying much. There's no lock-on, the combat feels clunky and there's not much depth to it.
